For Henriette, the best interpreting job is one where no one even notices her, because that means people feel like they’re talking to the speaker directly. Over the years she has become highly skilled at fading into the background. In her more than 20 years as an interpreter, she has gone “unnoticed” on ships, military bases, and at NATO and UN meetings. Standing next to top government officials at international organizations may not be every interpreter’s dream assignment, but Henriette has come to relish the challenge. This kind of work requires keeping up with current events, a wide knowledge base and a high level of familiarity with protocol. Equally demanding, and even more draining emotionally, is her work interpreting at shelters for women and children escaping domestic violence.

When she’s not at work, Henriette is a lover of the arts. She always appreciates a good book or painting. She is a firm believer in the idea that if you want things to change for the better, you have to change them yourself. That’s why she organizes the initiative called DARUJ KNIHU KNIŽNICI (Give a Book to the Library), which collects books and sends them to underfunded public and school libraries.
